LFS researchers awarded funding from CFI’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund

We are pleased to announce that four faculty members in LFS received funding from Canada Foundation for Innovation’s (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF). This funding helps universities buy state-of-the-art lab equipment to support impactful research. A total of 34 projects led by UBC researchers were awarded $9.1 million in funding.

Congratulations to these LFS researchers:

  • David Kitts, Associate Dean in Research, and Anubhav Pratap-Singh, Associate Professor in Food Processing, for the BC Food & Beverage Innovation Centre. Kitts employs many aspects of food chemistry principles in his research to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of both nutrient and food toxicant action in living organisms. Pratap-Singh’s research explores various emerging technologies for improving the nutrition, quality, processability and shelf life of processed food products.
  • David Wright, Professor in Exercise, Metabolism, Nutrition and Health (joint appointment in LFS and Kinesiology), for his project Metabolic Caging for the Assessment of Energy Balance and Substrate Utilization in Mice. Wright’s research interest is in the entanglement of nutrition and exercise.
  • Tamara Cohen, Director of Dietetics for the Nutrition and Eating Behaviour Laboratory. Cohen’s research interests lie in understanding the interplay between different lifestyle bahaviours as they relate to weight management.
