How did you hear about LFS at UBC?

I heard about LFS from a friend who started at UBC one year before I began applying to universities. I was looking for a program that combined my interests in science with business and economics, and they suggested I look into the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. I found the Food and Resource Economics Program on the LFS website, which fit what I was looking for!

What was your favourite class and why?

I thoroughly enjoyed FRE 326 – Empirical Methods for Food and Resource Economics. Though the material was challenging, the class had a welcoming and fun atmosphere. The class size was small, which made it easy to get to know classmates.

Do you recommend students get involved in extra-curriculars? What did you do outside the classroom?

I recommend students participate in clubs and other organizations outside of UBC! Getting involved is a great way to meet people across different years and faculties. During my undergraduate degree, I served one year as the FRE Program Representative to the LFS Undergraduate Society, and three years as a Director of the Canadian Celiac Association of British Columbia.

What is the next step for you? Do you have plans post-graduation?

I am starting the Master of Food and Resource Economics program (at UBC) this fall.

What advice do you have for students?

Get to know your professors! Your professors want to get to know you and to see you succeed. Beyond providing assistance with course material, they are a great resource if you are seeking advice about your future career path.
